Dr. Spiegel’s Balance and Fall Prevention Program
Could Feeling Dizzy Put You at Risk?
Vertigo and dizziness can feel unbearable, and they can also be dangerous. Do any of the following symptoms sound familiar?
- Seeing your surroundings spin
- Getting pulled to one direction
- Feeling queasy, seasick or lightheaded
- Ringing in your ears
- Lightheadedness
- Staggering or tilting, as though trying to steady yourself on a moving vehicle
If so, you are not alone. Four out of ten people in the U.S. will see a doctor for these symptoms during their lifetimes. And all too frequently physicians prescribe medications that take care of the problem temporarily, but the bouts of dizziness return.
For some patients it can take years to get accurately diagnosed and treated. Worse, doctors may tell them that dizziness and poor balance occur naturally with aging, and there’s not much they can do to help. Fortunately, with proper testing, we can now accurately identify underlying causes of dizziness or loss of balance in order to help you feel better and prevent falling.
Causes for Dizziness and Vertigo: Many disorders can cause vertigo and dizziness, ranging from inner ear problems to serious neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis. But the most common culprit is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). People with BPPV often feel a spinning sensation that lasts about 30 seconds when they lie down, sit up or roll over in bed, or tilt their heads back and forth.
Fortunately, thanks to new breakthroughs in diagnosing and treating balance disorders including BPPV, we can now help patients to successfully recover from the endless dizziness cycle. Not only do they feel better, they can also frequently stop taking dizziness meds. They are also much less likely to suffer from fall related injuries.
Introducing Our Balance & Fall Prevention Program:
Dr. Spiegel designed and developed our Balance and Fall Prevention Program in order to accurately identify underlying reasons for vertigo that could be causing your suffering. The program uses proven treatment regimens that restore the normal functioning of your balance system. Medicare and most other insurances cover the program. Even when past treatments have failed, Dr. Spiegel can help you overcome your symptoms and regain control of your life.

Here is a brief description of our Balance and Fall Prevention Program:
Initial Consultation and Computerized Balance Screening:
As a first step we set up a personal vertigo and balance evaluation with Dr. Spiegel to help him identify the cause of your symptoms. He will perform a neurological exam to help determine whether cardiovascular disease or a neurological disorder could be responsible. You will also have an assessment that helps him tell whether you’re getting the right kind of exercise – or whether conditions in your home pose a fall risk.
Diagnostic Testing for Dizziness and Vertigo:
Since balance problems and dizziness are commonly caused by problems in the inner ear, you will have Computerized Video Electronystagmography (VENG) and Computerized Dynamic Balance (CDB) testing.
Computerized Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (CVRT) and Balance Training:
In this next phase of the program you’ll begin treatment. Our licensed physical therapist will use an advanced computer system to exercise and rehabilitate you, together with manual treatments that will restore balance, increase muscle strength and improve your joint flexibility.
Follow up Visits:
To ensure you get good results with our Balance and Fall Prevention Program, Dr. Spiegel will see you periodically for visits. During these, he will evaluate your progress and make any necessary changes to your treatment. If you’d like to learn more about how our program ends vertigo and dizziness, please call our center today at 727-787-7077. Or to schedule a consultation with Dr. Spiegel, simply click here. A member of our helpful staff will contact you soon to confirm your appointment.
