Dr. Spiegel’s Headache Relief Program
Which Type of Headache Do You Suffer From?
Most adults and even some children and adolescents get headaches. Some people can shake off a mild headache fairly quickly, while others suffer chronic migraine pain on a daily basis. No matter how bad your pain has become, it’s important to know that people with any kind of headache can be effectivelytreated at our center once Dr. Spiegel has made an accurate diagnosis. Because each type requires its own special treatment, we’d like to hear which of the following headaches best describes yours:
Tension Headache:
Your pain head pain is often diffused and mainly focused around the eyes or temple region. It is caused when your facial or neck muscles tense up or when blood flow to your head becomes constricted. Though your headache typically lasts for just a few hours, it can feel terribly painful and even stop you from completing work or other important tasks.
Cluster Headaches:
You feel intense pain and pressure in your temple or behind the eyes. Usually these symptoms last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half. The headache frequently re-occurs the following day at around the same hour. These painful episodes can go on for weeks.
Migraines:
Your headache pain is debilitating. You may feel nauseous or even vomit. You may also see auras, feel intensely sensitive to light and sound, or even feel like your fingers and toes are freezing. These classic pain symptoms can send you to bed for hours or days at a time. It’s virtually impossible to complete daily tasks or go to work.
Around 20% of migraine headaches can indicate extremely serious conditions, including the potential for eye muscle paralysis. Obviously, it’s essential to seek out expert medical advice. Please do not wait!
Dr. Spiegel’s Headache Relief Program:
The Headache Relief Program at Neurological Solutions combines a number of effective approaches to treat headaches. That way, we can provide patients with long term pain reduction – sometimes after only one course of treatment. Most insurance companies, including Medicare, will cover the program.
Here is a brief description of the way it works:
Neurological Consultation:
Diagnosing headache symptoms can be complex. That’s why the first step we take is to set up a one-on-one pain evaluation with Dr. Spiegel. Together, you will discuss the history of your headaches, including any past treatments and how they have worked for you.
Advanced Diagnostic Testing:
We use state-of-the-art diagnostic testing equipment that includes electroencephalogram (EEG) testing to measure your brain’s electrical activity. If Dr. Spiegel has any reason to believe that your headaches could indicate a serious neurological condition or brain tumor, he will order CT or MRI scans. Dr. Spiegel will study these tests thoroughly for well-documented brain activity patterns indicating that an underlying physical problem is causing your headaches.
Preventative Medicine:
As part of a spectrum of treatments, Dr. Spiegel can prescribe medications that can reduce or even prevent migraines and other severe headaches from forming. Physical Therapy: Especially if your headaches are partly caused by tension or incorrect posture, we have licensed physical therapy professionals and equipment onsite to help remedy the problem. This also allows Dr. Spiegel to monitor your progress closely as you recover.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Migraine Headache Relief:
If your headaches are caused by abnormally functioning brain blood vessels Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) can bring fast pain relief – even during an acute attack. HBOT works by flooding your body with oxygen in order to reduce blood vessel swelling. Although HBOT won’t prevent headaches or reduce their frequency, many patients who come in for treatment during the midst of a migraine have found that it stops pain completely.
